Lawyer Dies At KNH 10 Days After His Hands Were Chopped Off By Lover

A lawyer, Onesmus Masaku, whose hands were chopped off in a confrontation with his police officer lover has died at the Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi.

The South Eastern Law Society of Kenya branch chairman, Justus Mutisya, said the advocate succumbed to his injuries, nearly 10 days after he was admitted.

According to earlier police reports, which had been highly disputed, the lawyer had invited Constable Nancy Njeri, who is stationed at Wote Police Station in Makueni County, to his house.

She reportedly chopped off his hands with a panga in self-defence, as he allegedly tried to rape her.

Masaku was admitted to the KNH in critical condition.

LSK president Nelson Havi had dismissed the claims that the lawyer had tried to rape the police officer.

More than 10 advocates, including Havi and his deputy, Caroline Kamende, were representing the lawyer in the assault case.

Following Njeri’s arrest, there were claims that the police would try to cover it up and protect one of their own.

Activists marched to Wote Police Station to record statements in protest.

The suspect is still in police custody as investigations continue.

The case will be mentioned on 23rd October.
