Muthama Alleges Plot To Rig Machakos By-election, Vows To Reject Results

Monday, 15th February - Former Machakos Senator and UDA chair Johnson Muthama has vowed to reject Machakos Senatorial by-election results if there is rigging, alleging a plot by the National Government and the alleged involvement of provincial administrators in campaigns for the Wiper candidate Agnes Kavindu Muthama.

According to the ex-senator who addressed the press in Machakos, UDA candidate Urbanus Muthama Ngengele has the biggest support from Machakos people and they were going to challenge the election results in court if the Wiper candidate is rigged in.

“The other day there was a meeting at Kisukioni that is the sub-county headquarters for Matungulu, the DCC and other provincial administration including the chiefs and assistants they were there in their full uniform, doing campaigns for Agnes and they sent the assistant chiefs to go and mobilize people to come and be given money. Money that we believe is part of the state effort to rig elections in Machakos.” Muthama said.

“Again in Kangundo, the same happened. We have the date, timings, and clips. It also happened in Masinga where the DC and his junior the DO’S and the chiefs and even village elders. This is taking place in the whole county of Machakos.” The UDA chair went on.

Muthama further cautioned that if the “rigging” was going to continue, as UDA party they would reject the results and go to court.

“We know there are plans of stealing votes on Machakos and the message that has been given – it is a must according to the government machinery for the wiper candidate to win. I wish to state here we are collecting evidence and if the results will show what I have said here plus stealing of votes then we will go to court and challenge the results.,” The ex-senator threatened.

This comes just a day after the CCU party threatened to write to the IEBC over the involvement of provincial administration officers in the ongoing Machakos senatorial campaigns.
